INTRODUCTION

Following the success of our first three endurance rallies, Amman & District Motor Club Ltd. will be promoting the rally again on 19th & 20th August 2006.  It is a round of the COLWAY ENDURANCE PREMIERSHIP.

There are new joint Clerks of the Course for 2006, Roy Whitney and John Morgan, both very experienced rally organisers. Hywel Thomas, the Clerk of the Course for the first three Welsh Endurance Rallies, is still a member of the Organising Team and is the Rally Secretary.

Unlike last year, when the whole rally was held within the confines of the MOD Training Area at Caerwent, the format this year will revert to that of our first WELSH ENDURANCE RALLY, with a series of Selectifs on private land during Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning plus a traditional road rally of a few hours duration starting late on Saturday. The event will  be based around the top of the Amman and Neath valleys.

The rally will be quite straightforward and is a test of car and crew, with no tricks and no difficult navigation. Many of the Selectifs will use unsurfaced roads, including the famous Walters Arena, but there will be no car-breaker sections.

This is a two-day Endurance Rally, not a sprint, so the crews must pace themselves and preserving the car must be top priority. Stamina and reliability will be essential ingredients for success.

The Technical Regulations comply with the rules defined by the Motor Sports Association - our governing body - in the 2006 “MSA Competitors’ Yearbook”, with the additional ruling that all cars must use Colway Road Plus tyres (just like the very successful Lombard Revival Rally).

The Entry fee is £230 for the two-day rally, including a barbecue at the Finish.

SELECTIF SECTIONS

A Selectif is a test of skill and speed, held entirely on private land. Timed to the second, competitors are required to complete a clearly defined course at an average speed of 40 mph, but the layout of the test make this a challenge. There will be many changes of direction and manoeuvres such as spinning around a marker cone, while on the very few straight sections where high speed is possible, competitors will be required to record the letters and numbers on clearly-visible code boards. There will be no manoeuvres requiring reversing.

Precise neat driving will offset lack of power, and striking a marker or not recording the information on a code board will incur time penalties.

The Selectifs will vary in length, some being more than five miles long. The roads used will be concrete, tar, non-damaging gravel, and grass tracks.

The route to be followed on the Selectifs will be defined by 'Tulip Diagrams', which are pictorial representations of junctions, manoeuvres, etc. These are quite easy to understand and follow, but on all Selectifs the navigator must concentrate hard to keep the driver on the correct route - a test of driver, navigator and car.

 SCHEDULE

Competitors can drive down on Saturday morning and complete the Scrutiny and Documentation formalities before the rally starts at 2  pm.

The first leg will consist of several Selectifs, many attempted twice, with a short Tea Halt to enable the test layouts to be changed.

After a two hour Dinner Halt, the rally restarts with a traditional night road rally of a few hours duration.

The third leg on Sunday morning will consist of several more Selectifs, again with some attempted twice.

The first car will be at the Finish by 1 pm, and after a barbecue lunch (cost included in the Entry Fee) the Prizegiving Ceremony should start about 3 pm or sooner. Then everyone can be home again on Sunday evening, tired but knowing they’ve completed another arduous Welsh Endurance Rally.

REGULATIONS

The rally will run under a 'Clubmans' status permit, and Competition Licences will not be required. Competitors will be divided into six classes, based on the experience of the crew and on the size of their rally car’s engine.

The draft Regulations have been submitted to the MSA for their approval, and copies of the Regulations, together with the Flysheet and Entry Forms, can be printed by clicking on the links at the top of this page. The Technical Regulations are an appendix of the Regulations and are similar to the 2006 Lombard Rally’s technical regulations.

ACCOMMODATION

Competitors will be sent a list of hotels,  b.&b., etc. with receipt of entry. It is the competitors' responsibility to reserve their own accommodation.

ENTRIES

Entries MUST be made on a printed copy of the Entry Form - faxed and e-mailed copies will be disregarded. The completed form plus the Entry Fee must be sent to the Entries Secretary whose details are given below. The organisers reserve the right to not accept an entry and no reason need be given, but basically it's first come first served.
